A battle scared Tripod searches out more pitiful humans

A fifth machine appeared.  It raised itself to full height, flourished the
funnel high in the air and the ghostly terrible heat ray struck the town.

A nervous Heliograph crew signal the approach of the Martians

they haven't seen the heat ray yet

British regular infantry cower in their trenches expecting the worst.
